WEEK 3 prompt number 2

Persepolis for me was a great and interesting book to read, it has a very captivating storyline, the protagonist blew me away, and the other characters also have a solid stance in the story . And I also do not have many classes to go to so I have a free schedule most of the time and plenty of time to read.  I would also like to point put that if other Writers also started to write graphic “ novels ”, like Marjane Satrapi does, It would make them very successful writers since you can tell exactly what the atmosphere and feelings are in every page of the book through the expressions on the characters faces. Many Novels do not have this kind of “feel” to them and it sometimes leaves you confused and it is very likely that you will over estimate or under estimate or even be totally clueless as to what the characters are feeling. Reading has never been difficult for me and that is one of the reasons why I love to read. And by reading Persepolis I have new found respect for graphic novels which I never took a second look at thinking it was junk reading. Persepolis was a pretty easy read for me , being a Graphic novel and all but I do think that reading is going to get harder as we get deeper into the semester . The scene I like most from Persepolis is the scene in pages fifty-eight to sixty, where Marjane Satrapi and her dear Uncle Anoosh are having a conversation about him being in prison and his wicked Russian girlfriend. It did a good job along with the other things about how sad Marjane’s uncle was. Another thing that happened to me while I was reading this book was that i started to smile when good things happened to Marjane Satrapi  and the serious and sad moments made me feel bad as well. And thinking about my thinking , One thing  I did very frequently while reading this book is that I Put myself in Marjane’s place whenever I was confused about what something felt like and it immediately gave a different perspective on this little girl. For example when Marjanes mother dyed her hair black and started to wear dark sunglasses in public, Marjane noticed this and was proud and happy for her mom , but in reality her mom was terrified and Marjane should have been scared for her mom . I deemed her stupid at that point. But then I put myself in her place and imagined what my feelings would be like if I was that age and my mother was in a magazine, Totally totally awesome. So yeah I had many of these “epiphanies” through out the book and I am totally going to read Persepolis II ,this was my Cognitive Reflection of Persepolis =0. Happy reading.

Week 2 and Prompt number 2

              

So the scene Ive chosen for this blog post is from Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. The Pages 40-43 where the Shah of Iran is successfully overthrown by his people. I can personally relate to this scene because I had many Egyptian freinds who were going through this same struggle with their families and friends who were actually in Egypt during the Mubarak Regime. For example, one of my friends father's, was put in jail for over two weeks for giving the princes "attitude". And there are probably many other stories just like these of Mubarak's Tyranny and what not; But going back to the scene, I can also personally relate to the excitement, activism, and mix of emotions that everyone in the Muslim community felt when the revolts started to happen... The citizens of Egypt had enough of their Machiavellian Ruler, and had taken a stand. The news was everywhere, CNN, BBC, Youtube Facebook, twitter, and even posts on Craigslist. everyone was stunned by the fact that after 30 years of Mubarak's rule, Egypt finally had a chance of ridding themselves of this terrible person. I can also relate to the Joy and excitement that my Egyptians freinds and my own family felt for the Country when the revolts where finally over and Egypt did in fact get rid of Mubarak.

Now that I have explained my Interpretation of the scene, Im going to objectively interpret the same scene, meaning that im going to try to describe it to you through the author’s eyes. The Author writes the scene showcasing two events: The first being the Public’s voice and their actions which Marjane and her family were definitely a part of, and the second being the Individual voice of her Father and mother giving which gives the reader a more detailed view of what the people really felt like. This scene Impacts the Novel greatly by showcasing the seriousness and commitment people had to getting rid of the Shah and his tyranny. And it also shows really how oppressive the Shah was by showing how happy the people were after he was gone (pg. 42). I think the author’s intention of writing this scene is to signify things like the Massacre and then the Celebration the people had; She does not incorporate her feelings into the scene, it’s as if she dedicates the scene to the Iranian people and the Iranian people only, aside from when she asks her dad questions (pg. 43)

Some differences between my interpretation and the objective one are:

1.       Well the my interpretation is more personal and a lot more about me while the objective interpretation is a lot more about the authors voice.

2.       The objective interpretation is from analyzing a book while my interpretation is analyzing how a scene from the book personally relates to me.

Inside a Flawed Machine as Gadhafi's Rule Crumbles : A Summary

Accoriding to an article in the Wall Street Journal, Published on Friday, September 2, 2011: on September setting is in Libya after Moammar Ghadhafi, the leader of of the country is overthrown by his people because they despised him as a leader. The article is ABOUT a hoard of confidential documents that that were found in the Government Offices that demonstrated how distraught and unorganized the Libyan government really was. Military/Police Officers reported that many times, the intel they recieved from "higher up" was of little or no help at all. Pretty soon, they were barely told what to do, so the officers started to abuse their power and commited crimes like rape, taking drugs and, abusing people at random.

The point the the writer is trying to make is that even though the Libyan government's offensive approach towards its people looks controlled, What is happening in the background is a completely different story, full of disorder, chaos, and commotion.

My mother never.....

My mother never sent me to public school. Ever since she first came here from India, my mom had a passion for teaching but, because of many reasons she was not able to become a teacher. So after I finished K-grade, my parents started to look for a good school to put me in. So while looking for a good school to put me in, my mom found a homeschooling program called Wilson Home-schooling. My mom thought it was great and she had a lot of spare time.And so I began homeschooling. School for me was extremely flexible and easygoing, I learned a lot from all the one-on-one attention, and there was no Standard which I had to compare myself to.The program we were doing required us to go to a teacher once week at the Wilson Academy, what I mean by this is that my education was still pretty controlled. So after a year of private school which really didn't work out for me, We stopped doing the Wilson Home-schooling program and my mother designed her own curriculum for me from various online sources. With this completely independent program, It gave my family and me a lot of flexibility to go where ever we wanted , whenever we wanted. We went to everywhere from the busy streets of san franciso to the peaceful quietness of yosemite national park. Almost everyday we went out to a different place like a zoo or a park , or a museum, and it was all possible because of my mothers great idea of homeschooling us. There was probably no kid my age who had as much fun and amazing experiences as I had at the time I was homeschooling. Everyday was a new adventure. As for studying, If we went on a week long trip we would make a plan on what i had to study and when, but if we where at home, I studied at anytime during the day usually in short 1 hour intervals. Soon my brother and sister were old enough and they joined me in homeschooling. I continued homeschooling till I was 15 years old, when my Father found another great program that I could get into. The program was a middle college program that 8th graders could go through to finish high school faster. Basically, since one college credit equals 2 high school credits, Taking college classes helped the students finish high school faster and gave them a college level education experience if they could handle it. All you had to do was pass the evaluation test and the rest is self explanatory. And so I started my first year of college at San Jose City College in the Fall of 2011 and I aced the Evaluation thanks to the effectiveness of homeschooling. And of course Thanks to my mother.

Introduction Post

I am Omar and  this is my first blog post and today, i"m going to introduce myself to you: I was born and raised in California but my ethnic background is South Indian. The only state I have visited is Reno, Nevada but other than that, I have never left California. And though I have explored California from North to South, I have never lived in another city except Santa Clara. My family loves the city and we don't plan on leaving any time soon. Speaking of family, I am the oldest in my family and i have a younger brother who's 14 and a youngest sister who is either 9, 10, or 11, and of course my Mom and my Dad are also in that picture. For now, I haven't chosen a  career seeing that i still have about three years of college left, but I've narrowed it down to four choices: chemical engineering, Zoology, computer engineering, or Criminal Justice. And if I hadn't mentioned it before, I am 16 years old and I am in a Middle College Program so I have plenty of time to choose a career. I have a lot of hobbies but I have chosen 4 that I would like to share with you : The first is that I am a Sneakerhead, I collect all kinds of sneakers and im addicted to it. The second is that I am a Boy scout, I love the outdoors and scouting gives you the ultimate outdoors experience in my opinion, The third is fish-keeping, I collect an exotic species of fish called cichlids, They come in all sorts of colors and shapes but are extremely aggressive, The PH, landscape, aquarium gravel, and lighting all have to be just right for them to not kill each other. My fourth and final hobby is Fishing which is extremely boring to explain so im not going to get into that. My passion is Animals, or pet keeping, over the years, I have raised and/or, bred, and/or kept cockatiels, parrot, prakeets, lutino quails, chickens, cichlids, bearded dragons, rabbits, green anoles, and tarantulas. But right now,  I have a 55 gallon African Cichlid Tank , and a 4 year old bearded dragon named Tang. I also love to read , when i go to the library, I rent out at least 12 to 15 books and i finish before they are even due. But one thing I have is writing, I despise it so much that im not even going to talk about it. So there is the bit about me, and I look forward to reading yours if you are in my English 1B class. =)
